kari jo cates founded citywrites out of her new york city apartment looking for a way to use her creative talents and make ends meet while her dashing husband finished his rocket-scientist studies (no, seriously) @ cu. she began handwriting stationery and birth announcements in 2000 for friends and word of mouth spread quickly; soon citywrites was filling orders as quickly as her pen would go.

she enjoys the personal aspect of each order and believes that the art of handwritten correspondence cannot be overstated.

her grandmother, maxine.

kari jo lives in new york city with her husband, cory, their two energetic sons, nathan and henry, and smiley daughters, caroline and betsy, and a littlebitsy snake (don't ask, but it's growing on me).
